| Non-Package details | The Aberdare Country Club, only a three–hour drive heading northeast from Nairobi, is nestled on a slope of Mweiga Hill in the Aberdare Highlands, part of the Great Rift Valley. This captivating site was selected, with much emotion, by an English couple who had decided to settle in the land of their choosing – Kenya. It all happened many years ago: their children grew up there, but then moved on to different places. After almost half a century, their home, “The Steep”, was sold and developed along the lines the original owners would not have dreamed of, but was carefully nurtured and kept in a way they would have approved. This is highlighted in Monty Brown’s book, “Haven Under the Hill” so aptly: “Today, despite the fast-changing tempo of the outside world, the old home still retains that comfortable, solid feeling based on traditions from a time when life proceeded at a far more leisurely and gentle pace”. The Club’s 1,300 acre wildlife sanctuary is teeming with impalas, zebras, giraffes and the more reclusive leopards. It is a haven of unhurried charm set in a garden bursting with a profusion of colour, and with peacocks living within the lush green lawns. Walking through this unspoiled terrain is paradise. Play a round of golf watched by a family of warthog, take a Mountain bike and ride up to Kamatongu Hill, play tennis or just relax by the heated pool within the beautiful gardens. From here you can see the sunset with the stunning Aberdare Mountains as a backdrop Cottages There are 20 twins, 20 double rooms, 2 triples, 3 Deluxe and 1 VIP Suite, 1 room for physically challenged available in the cozy cottages. The alpine / colonial style rooms all have fireplaces which are lit on request. Additional features include torches, tea / coffee making facility, en-suite bathroom and hot water bottles for those colder nights. The VIP Suite For the discerning guests who want a little more space to relax, our VIP suite is the perfect genre of accommodation to choose. Sit back and catch up on the latest news while watching the television or grab a refreshing drink from the mini bar. The VIP suite has air conditioning, internet connection, a mini bar and kitchenette. Honeysuckle Suite This suite is for the discerning traveller looking for the best in comfort and privacy. Exclusively set out apart from the rest of the cottages on the property, this spacious suite is ideal for couples / honeymooners wanting to enhance that special occasion. The Honeysuckle Suite has 2 bedrooms, a living room / seating area, en-suite bathrooms, a kitchenette and private garden compound. All rooms and cottages have spectacular views of the plains, the Aberdare Mountains to the West and Mount Kenya to the East. Please note: All our cottages are suitable for families, we also have accommodation that can cater for the physically challenged. Lodge Amenities Conference facilities: • Two rooms are available, accommodating groups of 10 to 60 persons depending upon the layout. Each room is equipped with a full range of audio-visual equipment. • Aberdare room which can seat up to 60 pax. • Satima room which can seat up to 20 pax. Covering altitudes from about 7,000 feet to 14,000 feet above sea level, the Aberdare National Park is located 260 kilometers (162 miles) from Nairobi. Since the 1950’s, Aberdare National Park has been a major attraction and continues to be a favorite destination of travelers who love the outdoors and wildlife. Wildlife Visitors can observe different animals, such as elephants, leopards, buffalo, and rhinos in the park. While doing game drives, you may see some of the various monkeys, such as the Colobus and Sykes monkeys, for whom the Aberdare National Park is an ideal habitat. Many birds are also found here. In the forest there are many animals like Red Duiker, Suni, bushbuck, elephant, buffalo, leopard, etc. The moorland thickets are the home of Bush Duiker, the Black - fronted Duiker and also the Black Rhino. Mammal species - 44, Bird species - 290 Safari drives Half or full day safari drive to the The Salient and The Moorlands in Aberdare National Park. Search the plains for a plethora of animal activity, and capture that perfect photograph to take home. Game drives to the Solio Ranch, a private sanctuary between the spurs of the Aberdare Mountains and Mt. Kenya, are possible too. This 25,000-hectare reserve became famous because of its unique success in the rearing of the White Rhino and Black Rhino. Lion, leopards, cheetahs, buffaloes and zebras can also be viewed here in great numbers. Guided bush / Nature walk Enjoy various guided bush walks through the well-developed trails in the park. Our guides have in-depth knowledge of the local flora, fauna and wildlife, and will be happy to answer any questions you have about the animals or the history of the area. Bird watching Bird life found in the forest is abundant and varied. The most conspicuous group is the sunbird, with four abundant species: Tacazze Sunbird, Golden-winged Sunbird, the Emerald Green Malachite Sunbird and tiny Double Collared Sunbird. Bush culinary experience With the advantage of the vast game sanctuary full of animals, the bush breakfast/ lunch/dinner is a must for those seeking a more personal experience with nature.
