| Package details | Deloraine House sits on the western edge of the Great Rift Valley, 45 minutes from Lake Nakuru National Park. Nestled into the lower slopes of Londiani Mountain the House is set in the middle of a 5,000 acre commercial farm at an altitude of 6,000 feet. Deloraine was built in 1920 by Lord Francis Scott, a prominent early settler, and has to be one of the greatest examples of colonial architecture in the country. It is a unique hosted property with half of Kenya’s history bottled up in it. Over the years many British royalty have stayed at Deloraine, including the late Queen Mother and the Duchess of York, when a young bride. Today the house is run by the Voorspuy family, who are well known for their Offbeat Riding Safaris and Deloraine is their home and base for these safaris. There are 3 large double rooms with their own bathrooms in the main house plus a further 2 family rooms with shared bathrooms. There are also 3 double rooms with their own bathrooms in the cottage adjacent to the house. All meals are taken on the veranda or in the dining room and guests become part of the family atmosphere. The mature gardens are magnificent, boasting a croquet lawn, tennis court and swimming pool. There are eighty horses on the farm and although many are used for safaris, there are always plenty of polo ponies to ride, with the farm and the mountain providing more than adequate countryside to explore.
